Two Singapore technology companies share with HRM Asia why building their own talent pipelines is the solution.
As the demand for Information and Communications Technology (ICT) professionals in Singapore continues to outpace the supply, technology companies there are now taking matters into their own hands.
While there were some 172,000 ICT professionals hired across all industries last year in Singapore, the Ministry of Manpower's Labour Market Survey 2016 found that the market was still facing a shortage of roughly 30,000 technology workers.
In view of this shortage, some companies like NCS, a subsidiary of Singtel Group, and ST Electronics, have opted to build their own talent pipeline by tapping into government-funded training schemes, such as SkillsFuture.
Customized training and recruitment programme NCS, through the Infocomm Media Development Authority’s TechSkills Accelerator Company-Led Training (CLT) programme, recruited and trained almost 100 Singaporean infocomm professionals.
The CLT programme was introduced last year as part of the larger SkillsFuture scheme.
As its name suggests, companies will design and lead the training programme of selected candidates, namely fresh graduates and entry-level professionals looking to expand their
technical skill sets.
NCS’ customised training programme will put trainees through a one-year year specialised on-the-job training programme, giving them exposure to client projects, smart city research and development work. Read the entire article.
