The Skills Gap and Foreign Technology Workers

When developing a strategy around the technology skills gap it is good to look at all possible sources of talent. One of those sources is the Temporary Foreign Workers program. This program is administered by the Department of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship.

Previously organizations unable to find the skilled workers they require in Canada could apply for a three year permit to bring in temporary foreign technology worker. The permit time was reduced from three years to one year. This program covers many worker categories, including foreign nannies, so there were valid reasons for the government to change the permit period however in the case of temporary technology workers this is totally unrealistic.
